European Union trade mark filing support
Review the unitary EU trade mark route, clearance, goods and services, examination and use planning.
Key point: an EU trade mark is a unitary right. It can be efficient for an EU-wide plan, while its broad reach makes earlier-right review particularly important.
Review before filing
- Whether the sign is sufficiently distinctive.
- Earlier rights across relevant EU and national databases.
- Whether the goods/services match the commercial plan.
- Future territory of use and evidence management.
- Whether a national filing combination is more suitable.
Filing is not registration
EUIPO states that completing the application and paying the fee does not guarantee registration. A sound strategy should account for clearance, absolute grounds and possible opposition.
